I write to thank you for the help you are providing my son.
In August 2009 it came to light our son had been sexual abused by his friends and step grandfather, and although only over a short period of time it was very traumatic for our son. Right from the start my son wanted to talk about the abuse and immediately I sought help from my GP, the Police and Social Services, all unfortunately to no avail.
I also contacted the NSPCC and Child Line all without success. I tried to help my son but he could see it was upsetting me and I also didn't know how to respond.
In December after much badgering my son was assessed by CAMHS. Their response was that basically because he has not gone off the rails due to the support we have given him they couldn't help. I was however advised by CAMHS that the Magdalene Project could help but that they would not fund it.
I find it hard to believe that children who have been subjected to the abuse my son has cannot get help from the necessary authorities in this area. I am disgusted that as a victim of this crime my son has suffered due to the lack of help.
My son has now been 4 times and already I can see the counselling is helping him. He is finally sleeping at night after almost 8 months of interrupted sleep.
I know we still have a long way to go, but I wanted to thank you on behalf of my family for all your support. I really don't know where I would have turned had you not been there to help.
Thank you again.
